How to get your MyCampus e-mail on your third-party e-mail client

If you're like me, you hate having to sign into MyCampus to check your school e-mails. Luckily, I've figured out a way around this. If you use an alternative e-mail as your primary account, there is a way to set up your account to receive e-mails to your main account as well. This guide is set up for those using Windows Live Mail, however the instructions can be modified to work with whichever e-mail program you use (including G-Mail).

To begin, first open Windows Live Mail. Once the program is open, choose Tools -> Accounts..

Next, click "Add..." to set up a new account. When asked what type of account you wish to set up, choose E-mail Account and click next.

As your e-mail address, enter your MyCampus e-mail which for Durham College is usually firstname.lastname@mycampus.durhamcollege.ca or for UOIT is usually firstname.lastname@mycampus.uoit.ca.

Your password should be your birthday in the format MMDDYY (the default password for MyCampus). Enter your display name as whatever you wish, and check the box to manually configure server settings for e-mail account.

On the next screen, set your information up as follows:

My incoming mail server is a "IMAP" server.

Incoming server: itsosims01.mycampus.ca (Durham College); itsosims02.mycampus.ca (UOIT)

Port 143 (should be the default setting).

Leave the secure SSL box unchecked.

Log on using: "Clear text authentication"

Login ID: (student #)

Outgoing server information: Same as incoming server above.

Leave the next two boxes blank and click "Next."

There you go! You will now receive all MyCampus e-mails in your account. Enjoy!

How to set up your BlackBerry to work with DC-UOIT Wi-Fi

A lot of people on campus have BlackBerrys and aren't sure how to set them up to work with the campus Wi-Fi, so I'm posting a small guide on how to set it up. Credit goes to Rohan K for figuring this out. Follow these instructions and you'll have working Wi-Fi in no time!

Assuming you’ve installed the new O/S already, or you have one of their newer phones (I think most of the new ones with the track-pad instead of the track-ball should be fine.. haven’t tested any other than the Bold 9700 though (editor's note, this worked on my Bold 9780 as well).

Start by going to “Manage Connections” and select “Set Up Wi-Fi Network” then choose “Manually Add Network” (you can also scan, which does pretty much the same thing).

If manually adding, the network name would be CAMPUS-AIR.

On the next screen, set the different values as follows:
  • Security Type: PEAP
  • Username: <your student number>
  • Password: <your network password>
  • CA Certificate: <choose any certificate, you’ll be ignoring it anyways>
  • Inner link security EAP-MS-CHAP v2
  • Token: <none>
  • Disable Server Certificate Validation: CHECKED
Now you can save the connection, or if you don’t want to save, just click connect.

That should be it.. Enjoy!
